The Community Services Unit at Northside Community Service provides assistance and support to frail older people, younger people with a disability and their carers to live independently in their community. 

Community ServicesAssistance and support can include:

Personal Care
- helps with showering, dressing, grooming and eating etc. Fees and waiting list do apply.

Domestic assistance - helps with the housework and meal preparation. Fees and waiting list do apply.

Social Support - volunteer assistance with shopping, banking and bill paying etc. May have a waiting list.

Community Transport - transport by car to medical and para-medical appointments. A small fee applies.

Assistance with Care and Housing for the Aged (ACHA) - This Commonwealth funded program aims to assist financially disadvantaged older people to meet both their accommodation and support needs, enabling them to remain living in the community.

Weekly Centre Based Day Care - Meets each Wednesday from 10am to 1pm
The group meets at Corroboree Park, Paterson Street Ainslie.
Participants assist in determining activities which may include outings, craft, guest speakers, and a gentle exercise program. Morning tea and lunch. Transport is available. Fees apply.

Food for Thought - Meets on Tuesday's 10am to 1pm
This is a small social group that meets to experience healthy and economical cooking, based on good nutrition.
Activities include selection and preparing a meal for the group to share, games, music and regular outings.
Transport is available. Fees apply

Proactive- a gentle program of exercises designed for those who want to keep active, practise posture and relaxing Tai Chi movements. Meets Every Thursday. Fees apply

Case Management – information, support, referral and advocacy to eligible residents of the community. No fees apply

Cultural Case Management – for eligible residents of North Canberra who come from a culturally diverse background. No fees apply.

Multicultural Social Group – Meets every Friday, gold coin donation. Transport is available to those eligible

Family and Individual Support - information, support, referral and advocacy to eligible residents of the community. No fees apply

Majura Men’s Shed – provides men with the opportunity to come together and spend time in an atmosphere of mateship. Click here for more information.
