General information

An introduction to our Centres

Parents and children are encouraged to visit the Centre of their choice prior to commencement of care to meet the staff, be provided with information about the program, and to have a look around.

What to bring

You will need to ensure that your child arrives with everything they may need for their time with us.  This includes lunch, morning/afternoon teas, drinks, disposable nappies, wet wipes, hat, and a change of clothes.  It will be necessary to label all of your child’s’ belongings.  We encourage children to bring only healthy foods to eat – for example fruit, fruit juice, dried fruits, cheese and sandwiches.  Food that needs warming or cooking will be heated in the Centre’s microwave oven.

Immunisation

In accordance with Public Health Regulations, childcare centres are required to maintain a record of all children’s immunisation status.  We will require you to provide the Centre with a copy of your child’s current immunisation records.

Where these records are not up to date, he/she will be excluded from the Centre in the event of an outbreak of a disease covered by immunisation, until such time as all traces of the disease have cleared.  Diseases include rubella, tetanus, poliomyelitis, measles, mumps, diphtheria, whooping cough and Haemophilus Influenzae Type B.

Illness and infectious diseases

As per the Children’s Services Act of 1986, “any child or adult who is apparently suffering from an infectious disease should be excluded from the Childcare Centre.”  We expect that, if you know that your child is unwell on the day of your childcare booking, you would keep her/him at home to avoid spreading the illness to other children and staff in the Centre.

Medication

Medication will only be administered to a child when parent authorisation has been given through the “Medication Notice” form, all medication is in its original container and prescription medication clearly states the name of the child and the dosage required.

Skin Protection

Each Centre requires children to bring a sun hat to the Centre and to wear it when outside.  During the warmer months staff apply sunscreen lotion on children over 6 months of age.  Parents are asked to provide a substitute lotion should their child be sensitive/allergic to the lotion provided by the Centre.

Safety and emergencies

Each Centre places strong emphasis on the safety and well-being of all children in its care.  Each has at least one staff member with a current first aid certificate on duty at any one time as well as an OH&S Officer.  Each Centre is prepared for the possibility of fire and all staff are familiar with emergency procedures.

Excursions

As part of the learning experiences within our program the children may be taken on various excursions.  When these are planned, notification will be sent home with all the relevant details seeking the parent’s/carer’s concurrence.
