Program Overview

The Majura Youth Program provides services to young people aged between 12 and 25 living in the Inner North with access to opportunities that promote their personal resilience, and enable them to be active contributors in building a community that is inclusive of young people and their needs.  NCS utilises a person-centred approach which places high value on relationships with young people in order to more fully understand and respond to young people’s needs and preferences. The following are some of the programs delivered:

SOULBEAT African Drumming

SOULBEAT (Something Other than U that Lets the Beat Escape And Talking begin) uses African drum playing to tap into the therapeutic nature of music, assisting participants in reducing stress, dealing with emotions, feeling confident making life choices and building a strong identity and strong relationships with others. The drumming process promotes a range of social skills including listening skills, problem solving and empathy. The program runs for10 weeks at various times throughout the year.
These important life skills are developed while having fun playing music with your peers.
