Gungahlin turns out for our first ever Northside Children’s Fair

Last Saturday 24 October, Gunners Place was full of families as the Northside Children’s Fair brought our community together for a wonderful day out.

This was our first Fair in the new Gunners Place space and it felt like the perfect home for it. We had the chance to meet more than 300 families from across Gungahlin and beyond, who came along to play, eat, dance and catch up with neighbours.

Children lined up for face painting, joined in the dancing and tried out activities all day long. Parents and carers had the chance to chat with local organisations about the support and services available close to home, and to meet the team from our Harrison Early Childhood Centre, just down the road.

“Days like this are what community is all about,” said Ashleigh Bellingham Executive Manager of Children’s Services at Northside Community Service. “It was wonderful to see so many families meeting each other, our educators sharing their talents and children having the best time. Harrison is right on Gungahlin’s doorstep and we’d love for more local families to come and see what makes it such a special place to learn and grow.”

A huge thank you to our volunteers who gave up their Saturday to set up, serve, help out and pack down. The day simply couldn’t have happened without you.

Thank you also to ACT Policing and Cancer Council for joining us and connecting with so many local families, and to Pam’s Pantry, who gave away nearly 400 toys to children on the day. The smiles said it all!

Our Northside educators deserve a special mention too. They showed us talents well beyond the classroom with beautiful dancing, delicious food and some seriously impressive face painting. The children (and a few grownups) loved it.

Most of all, thank you to every family who came along. You are what made the day so special. Seeing Gunners Place full of people meeting each other, sharing stories and enjoying time together reminded us how lucky we are to be part of such a warm and welcoming community.

Come and visit Harrison Early Childhood Centre

If you enjoyed meeting our educators at the Fair, we’d love to welcome you to Harrison. Just a short drive from Gungahlin town centre, our centre cares for children from birth to six years old. It’s a place where little ones learn through play, make friends and feel part of a caring community from their very first day.

The best way to get a feel for Harrison is to see it in person. Come along for a tour, meet our educators and explore the spaces where your child will learn, play and grow.

Thank you again, everyone. We hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did and we can’t wait to see you again soon.
