Northside’s CD team believes in sustainable, community-driven development. We work with community members to identify and mobilise community assets that lead to inclusive and empowering community programs and growth within the Inner-North and Gungahlin regions of Canberra.
We work with groups, individuals, clubs, social enterprises and existing service providers to improve the social capital and wellbeing of Canberrans, with a specific focus on the participation and inclusion of diverse and vulnerable community members.
We believe in the skills, gifts and knowledge of the people we work with and can support you in the following ways:
- Provide linkages with individuals, associations, services, government representatives, resources
- Co-create a project, event, program, idea
- Support you to find funding
- Advocate through data collection, consultation and providing a platform or voice
- Promote your project, event, program, idea
- Develop assets (spaces, places, people, objects)
- Link you with training or development opportunities
This year we have been happy to watch the community take the lead and use their strengths and social capital in whatever way they choose.
The Northside team has been heavily involved in community development and engagement across Canberra’s north for more than 20 years. Our experience goes beyond the traditional approach of supporting groups and programs to become self-sustainable. Our Community Engagement team works with people to implement projects that reduce barriers to social and economic participation. We see community development as a vital opportunity to harness the strengths and skills of individuals and communities and to provide them with opportunities to use them.
We love being part of our local community and our team are never more happy than working alongside individuals, community groups, business traders and government teams to address wicked social problems or deliver out of the box innovative initiatives.
As a result of using an Asset-Based approach, 2019 saw us working alongside 41 community, business and government partners and harnessing the skills, strengths and ideas of more than 3500 members of our community.
