Dental Hygiene
This week, our preschool children had the wonderful opportunity to learn about dental hygiene from Janine, a former dentist and beloved Treehouse grandmother.
This week, we had the wonderful opportunity to host Treehouse grandmother Janine, a former dentist, who shared her expertise on dental hygiene with the children. Her engaging stories and insights captivated the young audience!
Janine began by explaining the structure of teeth and how each part plays a crucial role in our oral health. The children listened intently as she illustrated the importance of strong teeth for eating, speaking, and smiling confidently.
She emphasized proper brushing techniques, demonstrating the correct way to brush using gentle, circular motions and ensuring every surface of the teeth is cleaned.
Throughout her presentation, Janine’s passion for dental health shone through. She encouraged questions and shared relatable stories from her time as a dentist, making the topic exciting and inspiring the children to take better care of their teeth. It was a delightful experience that left a lasting impression on everyone.
Facts about Brushing Your Teeth:
- At around 8 years old, children can brush their teeth by themselves, but it’s good for parents to help ensure a thorough clean.
- Looking after baby teeth helps guide adult teeth to be strong.
- At 6 years old, children get their first adult molars.
- Use toothpaste designed for children and only a small amount – about the size of a pea.
- Molars are close together, so use a flossette to clean between the teeth.
- Children as young as 2 years old can use a flossette.
- From 3 years old, children can use an electric toothbrush.
We had fantastic questions and stories about dental hygiene from the preschool children. It’s evident they already know a lot about visiting the dentist and looking after their teeth!
A big thank you to Janine for sharing her knowledge and expertise on children’s dental hygiene.
