Play as a Foundation for Learning
Play-based learning provides rich opportunities for children to discover, create, improvise, and imagine, fostering a lifelong love of learning.
At Treehouse in the park early learning centre, we recognise that play is both a context and a process for learning. Through play, children are empowered to explore, inquire, experiment, and engage in critical thinking. Play-based learning provides rich opportunities for children to discover, create, improvise, and imagine, fostering a lifelong love of learning. When supported with intentional teaching strategies, play can extend children’s thinking and promote positive dispositions for learning, such as curiosity, confidence, and persistence.
Our learning environments are thoughtfully crafted to be engaging, respectful, and stimulating, encouraging children to take part in meaningful learning experiences. These environments are central to our philosophy and are guided by the principles and practices of the Early Years Learning Framework (V2.0), including high expectations for every child and respect for diversity.
Last week, in alignment with the Early Years Learning Framework emphasis on agency and collaboration, the preschool children actively participated in co-constructing a dinosaur world alongside their educators over several weeks.
This project-based experience fostered a strong sense of belonging and ownership, as children contributed their ideas, made decisions, and worked together with peers and educators. Through this collaborative process, children not only shaped their physical environment but also deepened their engagement and learning.
Our Children’s Services are very popular within the community so to ensure everyone can express their interest in our services we have created the Early Childhood Waiting List.
